As a NJ & PA Divorce Mediator I like to share useful information to my clients and followers.  Although this article doesn’t pertain directly to Mediation it does give important information to people who are getting divorced or have been divorced.  It also brings to light an issue for the elderly who may not be educated on the matter of potentially collecting increased Social Security benefits based on the earnings of a divorced spouse.  Please click here to read the article posted in the Wall Street Journal on January 17th.

The piece addresses many of the common misconceptions people have about the impact a divorce has on Social Security benefits. Schultz is correct to emphasize making a review of these benefits a top priority, as many widows are not aware that he or she could be collecting additional survivor benefits.
