I am a Professional Family and Divorce Mediator because I truly believe mediation is the best possible way to divorce.
I truly believe that the divorce process does not have to be adversarial.
I truly believe that children’s lives do not have to be ruined because their parents have decided to divorce and get caught up in a process that is promoting adversarial behavior.
I truly believe about 99% of divorcing couples can mediate if they take the time to get educated on the divorce mediation process.
I truly believe divorcing couples can go on to live happy, fulfilled lives after having mediated.
I could go on and on but by now I think you get the message. When I first became a Professional Family and Divorce Mediator I was worried because most Divorce Mediators were attorneys and I felt for some reason I would be at a disadvantage. Now after years of of practicing and bringing hundreds of couples through the divorce mediation process successfully, I think differently.
My clients search me out because I am NOT an attorney. I am strictly a full-time Professional Family and Divorce Mediator who does not have to ever worry about crossing the lines between being an attorney and being a Professional Mediator. My only concern and goal is to absolutely do the best that I can do to help my clients come to agreements on issues of their divorces that will work best for them and their families.
I am not bogged down by the bureaucracy of the Family Court System and therefore I am allowed to be creative and thoughtful through my approach in order to best serve my clients. I watch clients come in for their consultation extremely stressed and anxious and I have the immense pleasure of seeing them leave at the end of divorce mediation with smiles on their faces and with a renewed sense of hope for the future.
Just today, I read this article posted on the Academy of Professional Mediators website, In the Belly of the Beast: An Insider’s Critique of the Adversarial System of Divorce, written by Larry Gaughan. It again reaffirmed for me that I am so lucky to be a Professional Family and Divorce Mediator and not a Family Law Attorney. The article is a must read for anyone contemplating divorce.
